During the last few decades of the 20th century, remarkable progress has been made in our basic understanding of the processes of life. Simultaneously, new technologies have been developed in the field of life science. Humans, however, are encountering many serious problems in relation to health, food, the environment, and energy in this century. With the aim of solving these critical problems, our department is conducting a variety of extensive fields of bioscience and biotechnology.
